The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) in collaboration with Agra Limited and the Zambezi Regional Council, today handed over supplementary livestock feed valued at approximately N$500,000 to support vulnerable livestock farmers in the Kabbe North, Kabbe South and Katima Mulilo Rural Constituencies following the devastating floods that affected the Zambezi Region earlier this year.

The intervention forms part of the EIF's commitment to supporting communities affected by climate-induced disasters while strengthening climate resilience and protecting livelihoods.

The floods, which saw the Zambezi River rise dramatically from 3.36 metres at the beginning of March to 6.84 metres by the end of the month, submerged vast grazing areas, displaced households, disrupted livelihoods and left many livestock farmers without sufficient pasture to sustain their animals. The flooding also heightened human-wildlife conflict as both communities and wildlife competed for the limited dry land that remained.

Responding to a request from the Zambezi Regional Council, the EIF mobilised support to provide supplementary livestock feed to vulnerable farmers whose livelihoods depend on livestock production.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, on behalf of the Environmental Investment Fund, Mr. Elvis Mukaya, said climate change continues to expose communities to increasingly severe and frequent climate-related disasters, making collaboration essential in protecting livelihoods and strengthening resilience.

"Today's handover is about far more than livestock feed. It is about standing with our farming communities during one of their most difficult periods and demonstrating what can be achieved when government and the private sector work together. Through this partnership, we are helping farmers safeguard one of their most valuable livelihood assets while contributing to their recovery and long-term resilience."

Mr. Mukaya further expressed appreciation to Agra for its outstanding partnership in making the intervention possible. The livestock feed handed over today has a total value of approximately N$500,000, made possible through Agra's generous contribution to the initiative. EIF commended Agra for its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and demonstrating the critical role the private sector can play in responding to climate-related emergencies.

EIF also acknowledged the Zambezi Regional Council for its leadership in identifying the needs of affected farmers and coordinating the distribution of the feed to beneficiaries across the Kabbe North, Kabbe South and Katima Mulilo Rural Constituencies.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Zambezi Regional Governor, Honourable Dorothy Kabula-Simushi, welcomed the intervention and thanked the EIF and Agra for their timely support.

This support comes at a critical time as our livestock farmers in the Kabbe North, Kabbe South and Katima Mulilo Rural Constituencies continue to recover from the devastating floods that submerged grazing areas and severely affected livestock nutrition. This intervention is not only protecting livestock but also safeguarding livelihoods and strengthening the resilience of our communities."

The Governor further encouraged beneficiary farmers to make effective use of the supplementary feed to sustain the health and productivity of their livestock as recovery efforts continue across the region.
